Cape Verde – Future Special Partnership with the EU

« Back to News

On 20 November 2007 the 27 member-states of the European Union meeting in Brussels reached an agreement on a future special partnership with Cape Verde with the aim of strengthening and boosting ties between Cape Verde and the EU.

This encouraging and significant news of the ‘special partnership’ is destined to boost political dialogue and economic convergence, good government, security, regional integration and stability; some of the pillars that will regulate relations between the islands and the EU in the future.

A strategic plan of action will define financing processes, via the EU Development Fund (EDF) and with the blessing of the European Investment Band (EIB); the agreement also outlines the creation of a commission for supervising the Special Partnership.
